Question for Readers

Should We Have More Forum Classifieds Categories?

Traffic in the Forum has increased dramatically in the last year. We have also seen a big increase in the number of Free Classifieds posted.

Some readers have asked for the Classifieds to be broken down into sub-areas, such as:
1. Complete Rifles
2. Barrels
3. Brass
4. Bullets
5. Optics
6. Dies and Tools etc.

Other readers tell us "Leave it just the way it is... I like being able to find a wide variety of stuff in each category."

What do YOU think? Is it time to create more categories?

If so, how many new categories should we list?

Dedicated Classifieds Page?
Also, we have the ability, through a classifieds module, to have a dedicated page just for the Classifieds. However, this would require people to click to a different page of the Forum -- similar to the way Benchrest.com works.

We have found that most readers want to keep the classifieds FREE, and want to have everything accessible from the Forum entry page. We cannot, unfortunately, run the more sophisticated classifieds module on the Forum home page. We tried, but the software just can't do it. It has to run on its own page.

Would you like to see a dedicated Classifieds page, say with a dozen categories?

And should we restrict the Classifieds and start charging a small fee, such as $2.00, for ad listings?

I vote "Leave it just the way it is... I like being able to find a wide variety of stuff in each category."

It's fun to look through, plus every thing that's "NEW" from the last time I logged on is marked in that cute little box "NEW".

I'm not against change......but only getting pennies back from a C note makes me mad!

Yes.  The category breakdown would be great.
And, whatever gives you the best control and best use of resources is the best way to go.  If the user has to make an additional click,,, no big deal.

It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.

Definitely create more categories! I'd suggest:

*    Complete Guns
*    Gun Parts
*    Optics and Mounts
*    Reloading Components and Tools
*    Everything Else

Commercial sales could either go into a separate category or get mixed in with the private sales but flagged in a distinctive way. If more than 30% of listings are commercial, then they definitely should have their own category.

That's my 2-cents worth.

I'd like to see a couple more options. The only problem I can see is if people don't know where to put something.

I'd like ....... anything that needs to be sent to an FFL (complete guns, barreled actions & stripped actions)
Optics related ...... scopes, bases, covers etc
Reloading componets & equip.
Parts ............. bottom metal, triggers, barrels, stocks

I like it the way it is, I don't care for all the categories like BR Central classifieds has.

I think its fine as it is. BUT.... it needs to work the best for you great guys that have to manage and put it up for us. Personaly I think "dealers", someone who has a storefront, an FFL or sales tax permit, makes mabe 50% of his income from buying and selling the products we use, however you want to set the standard, should be charged a fee for advertisment.  Its wonderful that indivuals can trade or find something they need and offer the things they want to sell to others of like interest. I also think we should all kick in some $$$$'s to keep you going, thanks for doing a great job. JF
