Cheapest but Adequate 22lr Ammo for 100yd?
« on: 01:26 PM, 11/02/09 »
Any recommendations for the cheapest ammo that can hold the 10-ring of the NRA 100yd smallbore target?  This ammo will be used for practice.  Tenex is too expensive for practice and I am not a regular smallbore competitor.

Match EPS is cheaper. They brought in some Club EPS but I think they discontinued it.

Steve, the Wolf/SKS comes in two grades, even the lower of the two grades will fill your needs.  We've had more than one 1600 shot down here with it.

Is the Match EPS, the black box ammo? This stuff is still expensive but not as outrageous as Tenex.

Yep, Black Box. About $12 a box by the time it gets to your door.

Steve, yes, that's it - thanks, I couldn't remember the name.  It's the same ammo with different labeling, even the price is the same to the penny (at Bruno's) so buy whichever you find with equal confidence.

I've found that SK Pistol Match Special works very well in my rifle... I just picked up a few lots to test.

I would personally buy a few of the Wolf/SK varieties and give them a shot.

I'll probably buy a box of the SK/Wolf, and equivalent Eley and RWS from Bruno since he is nearer to me but he no longer sells Aguila.

Aguila Super Extra, Aguila Golden Eagle Target, Eley Sport...

I have found all three of these to give very good accuracy for the price range they are in.  I like the Eley Sport the best.
