I know that you can form 6mmAI from 7x57 mauser,my question is, can you use the 7x57 brass to go to just plain ole 6mm remington?

I`m not sure if the body taper is the same between the two cartriges, any other diffrences i should be aware of?

I`m just looking for better brass for a 6mm remington.

Phil.

Thats not a problem at all, just don't do it in one pass and you'll do fine...

The only high quality 7X57 cases are Norma. Winchester makes 6mm Remington cases for almost 1/3 the price of Norma 7X57 cases. I have two 6mm Remington rifles and experience with Winchester and Remington brass in 6mm, Norma in other calibers.

Remington brass does not provide good case life and has quality issues. Norma has better case life and requires almost no preparation. It is quality brass. Winchester has good longevity but requires sorting and preparation.

Since, in this example, Norma will require forming and preparation, I recommend Winchester. If only Lapua made 6mm Remington brass.

At Midway:
Norma 7X57 - $452.99 per 500 - $.906 per case
Winchester 6mm Rem - $180.99 per 500 - $.362 per case

Have formed 250 6AI cases using Win 6mm brass. Lost one due to a neck flaw. After fireforming and trimming, cases must be sorted by weight. Win brass is plentiful, cheap and gives a lot of reloads. Have had very good luck with Win brass in F Class competition.

My experience with Rem brass over the last 40 years of reloading in various calibers is that you don`t get the reloading life compared to Win. Never even considered Rem brass for my 6AI.

Also have never been interested in Norma brass. Way more expensive and I am happy with the results with Win brass.

48 grains of Varget and a Hornady 58 V-Max gives 4055 from a 25.5" tube. 49 grains H4350 gives 3570 with a Berger 80 MV in the same rifle. Both are stiff loads. I get 12-15 reloads, annealing every three firings.

A little milder load, 46 H4350 with the Sierra 95 MK gives single-digit ES, 3260 fps and oustanding accuracy. I am on 17 reloads with this load.

All in sorted, prepped Winchester brass.

As my current barrel has a little over 1500 rounds through it and is almost done; I am thinking about switching to a 30" tube with 7.5" twist and shooting the 115 Bergers. I have another 6mm Rem that has the standard 9" twist and is maybe a little more versatile.

i have 6mm rem brass in remington, winchester, and 244 remington brass in norma. And I will take the winchester any day just because of the price and ability of finding it. Not much of the 244 norma laying around

Wow, I haven't seen any Norma .244 in a dog's age. Sin_arms must be one of those hoarders we hear about. ;)
